Welcome to the Wheatsheaf Inn at Onneley!

Winner of The Sentinel's English Restaurant Of The Year 2010/2011

Alan Cookman visits The Wheatsheaf Inn - Overall Score 9/10

The Wheatsheaf Inn at Onneley has a long history going back to 1769 when it started serving ale as a coaching inn. The inn has been modernised in recent years but the old beams and open fires are still in place making it a cosy intimate place for a drink or a meal. Food is served in the bar or in our restaurant.

The Wheatsheaf also offer some impressive accomodation with our recently awarded AA 4* ensuite double rooms, some having been converted from the stables used in the coaching inn era.

We are also licenced for civil weddings, civil partnerships and naming ceremonies, with an adjoining golf course giving you the perfect backdrop for photographs.

The Wheatsheaf really is an ideal venue for meetings both large and small, we also cater for other functions such as wedding receptions, birthdays, christenings, engagement and retirement parties.

On Wednesday 7th September a Charity presentation night took place at the wheatsheaf in Onneley. The evening was organised to present the money raised over the course of the year from events held in and around the Wheatsheaf, this consisted of donations collected during special events which without the support of the local community would not have been possible.

The total raised for good causes and presented on the evening was £3198.00 and was presented to the following charities. Mr Mike Firth who represented The Douglas McMillan hospice received £1,355.00 this money was raised through donations made at the Wheatsheaf and a considerable donation which was collect following a Vintage Tractor Rally which was organised primarily through Mr Frost and assisted by the wheatsheaf as a "rendezvous" point for the Event's refreshments and food for all the local tractor owners / farmers who took part.

Sophia Baker who represented the Donna Louise Trust received £1055.00 this money was raised as a result of a ladies indulgence evening held at the wheatsheaf and a Charity Cricket day which took place between the Wheatsheaf select XI and Onneley CC Select IX with a special mention for all the support on both events to the Gloss Hair Lounge for the indulgence evening and of course the Onneley CC for teaching the Wheatsheaf a thing or two about cricket!

A further contribution was made to Breast Cancer Care of £688.00 which was raised from contribution gathered at a local "shoot" day and again the Ladies indulgence night and finally £100.00 was raised for Christies Hospice following a ladies lunch held at the wheatsheaf.

The evening was made all the more special by having many of the people who worked so hard supporting the good causes throughout the year from in and around the local community available on the night to see the donations presented.
